Do ad blockers or privacy extensions affect cashback tracking?
Category: Portal Cashback (1,000+ Stores)
Ad blockers and privacy extensions are the single biggest cause of cashback not tracking. They work by stripping out the small tracking cookies that partner networks use to match a purchase to a referrer — which means even if you click through from your Kick Cashback portal correctly and shop in the same session, the cookie that says "this person came from Kick Cashback" never gets set, and the retailer has no way to credit Kick (or you) for the sale.
Which tools cause problems?
Ad blockers: uBlock Origin, AdBlock, AdBlock Plus, AdGuard, Ghostery.
Safari on iOS and macOS: "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" is on by default and blocks tracking cookies.
VPNs with built-in tracker blocking: NordVPN's Threat Protection, Mullvad's DNS blocklists.
iOS content blockers: 1Blocker, AdGuard for Safari, Wipr.
How to set things up so cashback tracks
The simplest fix is to whitelist or pause your blocker for the duration of the shop. You don't need to disable it globally — you just need it off for the few minutes between clicking through from Kick Cashback and completing checkout.
uBlock Origin / AdBlock / AdBlock Plus (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
Click the extension icon in the toolbar and select "Pause on this site" or "Don't run on pages on this domain". Do this for both kickcashback.com.au and the retailer's domain. The pause stays in effect until you re-enable it.
Brave Browser
Click the lion icon in the address bar, set Shields to "Down" for both kickcashback.com.au and the retailer's domain. Brave's default Shields are aggressive and will block the cookie even if you allow third-party cookies in settings.
Firefox with Enhanced Tracking Protection
Click the shield icon in the address bar and toggle "Enhanced Tracking Protection is ON for this site" to off. Reload the page after toggling.
Safari on macOS
Go to Safari → Settings → Privacy and uncheck "Prevent cross-site tracking" before you click through from Kick Cashback. You can turn it back on after you've completed your shop.
Safari on iPhone / iPad
Settings → Safari → uncheck "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking". This setting is on by default on iOS, which is the leading reason iPhone shoppers report missing cashback.
How to test that tracking is working
Open the retailer's site after clicking through from Kick Cashback. In your browser, open Developer Tools (Right-click → Inspect → Application → Cookies) and look for tracking cookies that were set when you arrived from the Kick portal. If those cookies are present, tracking is working. If they're missing, your blocker is still active.
What if I really want my ad blocker on?
You can leave it active everywhere except the retailer and Kick domains during checkout. Most blockers support per-site whitelists, so you only need to make this change once per retailer. If cashback doesn't show up after a purchase, follow the missing-cashback troubleshooting steps.

Our Experience
We are a first-party cashback platform — we work directly with retailers rather than reselling another company's network. Our team negotiates cashback rates, manages partner relationships, and processes payments in-house. According to industry data published by IAB Australia, partner and cashback marketing represented over $1 billion in tracked Australian retail sales in 2024 (source: IAB Australia Online Advertising Expenditure Report). Kick Cashback is part of this growing sector and is committed to passing the majority of retailer commissions back to shoppers as cashback.
Our editorial team draws on direct experience working with major Australian retailers and global partner networks. We publish detailed cashback information, retailer terms, and shopping guides based on first-hand knowledge of how cashback tracking, attribution, and payments work. Where industry standards or regulatory guidance applies — such as the Australian Consumer Law administered by the ACCC, or the Privacy Act 1988 administered by the OAIC — we cite the relevant source so readers can verify our claims.
